One minute he's a master manipulator, slipping through loopholes like a corporate lawyer of the most immoral kind, and the next he's a short-term focussed, temper-tantrum pulling petty little bastard. But what, said that speculative side of me, if he's that way for a reason? What would happen, if instead of fighting possession, the host encouraged it?

Experience has also taught me that you don't need torture in Hell to make someone irredeemably, unimaginably evil. Some people are perfectly capable of getting there on their own.

Anyone unfamiliar with the origin of the title can find it here

comments

Yuletide letter (currently no longer a placeholder)

Dear Yulegoat,

Dear Lord, I don't know where to start. Hmm...

Mostly, I'm a gen girl – anything else needs to hit me in the right mood to work. I'm not saying it won't, but gen is that middle of the road, safe territory that doesn't muck around with peoples' OT-whatevers. Safe for me, because I don't always have OT-whatevers. Too often I see something that changes it.

I like stories that fit with the milieu. Some universes weren't made for crack!fic while others support it more generously. That said, I love stuff that takes an idea (a line, an object) from canon and expands on it. Retellings of stories from someone else's point of view – a kind of Rashamon take on canon, if you will – are also a favourite. Did 'X' really mean what people think he/she did? Or was it less/more evil than that? A different take on a character that isn't necessarily OOC – the ingredients are there, but it's not the most obvious interpretation.

I like interesting characters. Characters who aren't afraid to be themselves.

I like everyday stories. One of my favourite songs is Dire Strait's "Sultan's of Swing". Listen to the lyrics or Google them. It's a song that's really about nothing other than a band in a bar. Given the nature of dramatic works, we see our characters in extraordinary situations all the time. But what happens when nothing's happening? They've got to go grocery shopping some time, right? I'm not great at writing those all the time, myself (so I can't blame you if you decide to write something bigger), but I love reading them.

Given my past Yuletide experience, I'm sure whatever you come up with is going to amaze me.

-- Me.

P.S. Spoilers!

Flashpoint – I'm Canadian, so I've seen everything that has aired and think CBS sucks. When they stop mucking with my show, I might change my mind.

Kenzie-Gennaro series – I've read everything up to and including Moonlight Mile, so you're pretty safe there.

Nero Wolfe series – I don't care if you cheat and find the A&E TV-eps with Timothy Hutton and Maury Chaykin, because I've seen them and they stick close enough to canon to count. I have an entire bookshelf loaded with paperbacks, all with Stout's name on the cover. This is probably my oldest fandom, from before I really realised there was a thing called fandom. (Not to intimidate you or anything. ;) ).

comments

I wanted to start this thing off with something new, before I start trying to track down and gather together everything else. But with one thing and another, it just didn't seem to work that way.

So, rather, take one rather new fandom (for me, at least), a previously used concept and create something never before published. Thus, I bring you:

Disclaimer: I own neither Flashpoint, nor the characters involved. They belong to Pink Sky and CTV television. I make no money from these works, they are for entertainment purposes only.
Title: " Universal Knowledge: A series of Dewey Drabbles "
Fandom: Flashpoint
Character: Multiple, but Spike focused.
Genre: Gen
Word Count: 1,000 (not including section titles) – 10x100.
Rating: PG (language) if even really that strong. I'm simply erring on the side of caution.
Spoilers: Minor Spoilers for a bit of dialogue in 2.07 "Clean Hands". Bonus points to anyone who actually catches it.
Credits: Thank you rinkle and Cate for the beta work.
Author's Notes: I've done these before in other fandoms, and I'd like to do a few more. However, if anyone else wants to take the idea and run with it for their own fandoms, please do, though I wouldn't mind a little credit. Dewey – of course – refers to the Dewey Decimal Classification system used in many libraries to organise (generally) non-fiction works.

I also did a little something different here, with the addition of subtitles. Subtitle word counts are included in the whole.

( Universal Knowledge: A series of Dewey Drabbles )

comments
